ENGIE rowing challenge 2018 · 11 October 2018

We're the UK’s only youth-focused breast cancer awareness charity, on a mission to get every young person checking their chest. We want all young people to know the signs and see their GP if they notice any changes. We do this because early detection saves lives.

Story

As a region (London and South Developments) we are going to compete in a rowing race over 55km for CoppaFeel!. This distance is equal to rowing from our site in Marsh Farm, Luton to our Tollgate site in Kilburn, London. We will have two teams compete over the day to see who can complete the distance the quickest.

Across our region we have 33 female employees so this would mean, from national statistics, 4 of these women could be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime.

Breast cancer does not only affect women, it can occur in men too. There are approximately 1970 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed in men each year, and sadly approximately 390 men die each year from the disease.

CoppaFeel! are the first UK breast cancer charity to create awareness amongst young people, with the aim to install a new healthy habit that could one day save a life. They are on a mission to stamp out late detection of breast cancer and ensure the nation is checking their boobs regularly. They want to educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, encourage them to get to know what is normal for them and empower young people to have the confidence to see a doctor if they notice anything that isn't right for them.
