Story
As a parent, it is something you think will never happen to you. It was our worst nightmare come true. Two years, ago the bath was running and my son Eoin, who was two at the time was jumping excitedly at the side and fell in with his clothes on. He suffered 38% burns and spent a week in intensive care and over two months in Paul ward in the children’s hospital in the royal Victoria hospital Belfast. The nurses were amazing, especially Lydia. He had over 30 general anaesthetics during his time as an inpatient, receiving graft surgeries and dressing changes. His consultant Dr Fogarty is amazing and continues to care for Eoin who will need further surgeries.
Since then, the occupational therapy department have been instrumental in helping with Eoin’s rehabilitation, seeing him once a week. We can never thank Eoin’s OT Jude enough for everything she has done and Eoin would not be as far forward if it was not for her hard work and dedication.
I am running this marathon to raise money for Paul ward (the children’s burn ward) and for the Occupational therapy burns unit (to be split evenly). I want to recognise their hard work and thank them for the excellent care my son has received.
