Sport in Mind is the UK charity that uses sport and physical activity to transform the lives of people experiencing mental health problems.

Story

Hello everyone,

This Saturday morning I decided with a friend of mine that we are going to do one of the most challenging physical activities that we have ever planned to do. The 4x4x24, which involves running 4 miles every 4 hours for 24 hours. This will mean we will be running a minimum of 24 miles over a 24 hour period.

Some of you may have heard me talk about The Joe Rogan podcast before. I am an avid listener of this podcast over the last few years. Essentially he holds a conversation with a wide range of  different people from many walks of life including politicians, mathematicians, conservationists in addition to individuals such as Elon Musk and Kevin Hart. One guest that has stood out to me is a person called David Goggins. He is an extreme ultra marathon runner who has completed many 250 mile+ marathons. Every year he completes a 4x4x48 challenge. This year for the first time he has set up a website and is encouraging people from all around the world to join in with this challenge and raise money for deserving charities.

Having researched this I have been considering joining in with the challenge for some time. Recently he posted on his instagram about it with the following caption. ‘’In a world that is so divided, this is an opportunity to bring people together for the common goal of promoting physical and mental health as well as supporting many amazing charitable sources.’’ Inspired by this both myself and one of my friends decided we would take on the challenge.

He will be live streaming at the start of every 4 hour stage so if any of you would like to have a look at his content this is the website and his instagram;

I’ve have selected for my cause the charity ‘Sport In Mind’. This is because I REALLY want to highlight the great mental, physical and general health benefits associated with exercise. The last 7 to 8 years or so of exercise and nutrition have featured significantly in my life and I firmly believe this has been one of the most beneficial decisions I have made. I believe that I have been fortunate enough to have not have experienced a struggle with my mental health although I have had my own personal challenges. My belief in exercise and good nutrition, in my opinion has helped me to keep my mental health in check. I believe in the importance of maintaining a good level health has never been more important than now I have spoken to many of you so I am encouraged to hear that everyone has been doing that little bit extra.
