Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Although survival for many types of cancer has improved, pancreatic cancer survival has lagged significantly behind. For example, 50 years ago, only 46% of woman diagnosed with breast cancer survived 5 years or more. That figure is now around 85%. In that same period, less than 40% of men diagnosed with prostate cancer survived 5 years or more. Thanks to funding and research the survival rate has increased to over 87%.
Pancreatic cancer remains the lowest of common cancers, with only around 7% surviving 5 years or more. That's just 2% higher than that in the 1970's. This is one of many reasons why we have chosen to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
Pancreatic Cancer UK provides expert, personalised support and information via their Support Line and through a range of publications. They fund innovative research to find the breakthroughs that will change how we understand, diagnose and treat pancreatic cancer. They campaign for change; for better care, treatment and research, and for pancreatic cancer to have the recognition it needs.
As this is a subject very close to our hearts, my brother-in-law and I have decided to go on an Epic LITTLE big Adventure. Not only do we aim to raise awareness of this side lined illness, we also seek to raise as much money as possible for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
The plan? Well it's simple; work our way from Welwyn Garden City to Cardiff within 3 days. That's a mere 180+ miles. Easy right? Wrong. We will be doing this on a tandem bike! Why? Because it takes 2 to tandem. We set sail on Thursday 23rd May, reaching our destination by 6pm on Saturday 25th May.
Along the way we plan to offer our services (manual labour, glass collecting at pubs etc) while taking a rest from the pedals in order to raise even more money for this worthy cause.
Please follow our page on Facebook by searching for 'Epic little big adventure', where we will be uploading video diaries and other news along the way of this comical journey.
3 days - 2 men - 2 wheels.... What could possibly go wrong?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share this page with your friends and families, as we want to get as much exposure as possible and push this to the fullest.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated with no amount being too small - at the same time, no amount is too big :)
Thanks
