Story
Lianne, Catriona, Terry and Danny are all doing the 12 mile Tough Mudder obstacle course in Skipton in September.
We're all vets and are raising money to fund a project to reduce the incidence of rabies in India.
50,000 people a year worldwide die from rabies.
96% are a result of being bitten by infected dogs. It is predominantly children in poor areas who get bitten.
The charity Help in Suffering based in Jaipur, India, have been running an animal birth control programme to capture, vaccinate, neuter and release the street dogs to eradicate rabies and control breeding.
As a result of this project there has not been a single human case of rabies in that area since 2002.
Funding has been stretched in recent years. If the vaccination coverage of street dogs drops below 70% there is a significant chance that rabies could spread to humans once again.
The charity also treats the beasts of burden (horses, donkeys and camels) of the poorest people who cannot afford veterinary treatment but who are completely dependent on their animals for a living.
