Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This is the fourth time now for a member of our team going to Africa to build houses with Habitat for Humanity; Bill first went to Egypt, then it was Bill and Caroline to Kenya and to Malawi, now Tim and Yasmin join us to go Ethiopia to make a difference in someone else's life.
Over the next coming months the team will be taking part in car boot sales, bag packing in a supermarket, baking cakes, a fashion show, parties, sports events, fun runs, half marathons, car washing and anything else we can think of to raise money for this very worthy cause.
Habitat for Humanity first started to work in Ethiopia in 1993. They build in 13 regions and by June 2011 had built 1978 houses. A new house is typically between 22-36m² (about the size of a large living room) with a separate latrine.
The need for decent housing, especially among vulnerable groups, is increasing.
Life expectancy in Ethiopia is just 56 years. 29.2% of the 91.195m population live below the poverty line. Only 81% of urban people have access to clean water; 11% for rural people. Access to improved sanitation is 19% in urban areas; 4% in rural. Only 27% of Ethiopians have access to safe drinking water and only 10% to sanitation.
