Story

  • In October 2007 Grace was diagnosed with a brain tumour. After months of exhaustive treatment in Great Ormond Street Hospital; surgery, radio therapy&chemo, Grace was declared to be in remission. She then set out to help others, and in 2011 formed her charity 'Smiles with Grace', which supports projects that help sick children through England and Wales. Through another tumour in 2012, Grace was on her way to recovery. However in February 2013 Grace had a sarcoma tumour removed and endured 6 sessions of industrial Chemo. Despite this she continued to look ahead. Grace kept fighting, and returned to school in September. Almost a week later, Grace was struck down again with another bleed in the brain and this time there was no means of recovery. Sadly Grace passed away at 4;30pm on the 26th of September in Great Ormond Street Hospital just before her 16th birthday. Grace's courage and bravery were an inspiration to many and especially myself and to many who attended her funeral bore testimony to this. 'Smiles with Grace' is Grace's legacy and she will be remembered for this and much more. Grace was an inspiration to me. She showed me that no matter what, you have to keep fighting, and never give up. Although this run may cause me some physical pain, it is not nearly the amount of pain that Grace had to go through. Grace was a very dear friend of mine, and I miss and love her with all my heart, so I am running this 10K, to help continue Grace's legacy and to show her how much she means to me. So here's to Grace, I hope I can make you proud in July.
