Story

That's right I'm running TWO half marathons in two weeks!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - I appreciate there are plenty of charities out there and many of them have touched us in one way or another and one thing that has touched me and my family is hearing loss.

My MUM suffers from tinnitus which has left her requiring hearing aids. While she may not like to admit it, it does affect her day to day life and had she had the support in place year's ago potentially her life may not have been as affected as it has, from awareness and education through to treatment.

So I have chosen to raise money for Action on Hearing Loss (RNID) by running 2 1/2 marathons (The Great North Run & Robin Hood Half) within 2 weeks of one another.

Because hearing loss affects more people than you know.

Did you know...?

Approximately 11 million people in the UK are affected by hearing loss (that's 1 in every 6 people).

Did you know...?

There are more than 45,000 deaf children in the UK with temporary or permanent hearing loss.

Did you know...?

On average it takes 10 years for a person's hearing loss to be addressed.

Did you know...?

One in every 10 adults in the UK has tinnitus

Some experience deafness due to genetics, working practices or medical disorders

Raising money for this charity is not just about treatment but about educating, as deafness can even stem from something as simple the person's auditory pathways such as attending concerts, and working in loud environments (hairdressers, road workers).

I've ran 13 miles before in the Robin Hood marathon (September 2015), and if you know this many of you will know I do have a problem with my knee (some form of arthritis) which made it all the harder. What made it even more difficult was twisting it on the 4th mile resulting in a permanent injury which makes it far more difficult and painful to run.

Needless to say I still plan to run and raising money for such a worthwhile charity makes my determination to complete all the more worthwhile!

My target is £500 which I pledge will go directly to AOHL to help do all of the above and potentially more.
