Our Trust's teams make a positive difference, each and every day. The people who use our services are often colleagues, neighbours and friends. Our close-knit community makes being part of the Island’s NHS a unique privilege. Our charity is here to support all of our patients and staff.

Story

When Esme was born on the 4th March 2016, she suffered a very traumatic brain injury. As a result she now has an umbrella of diagnoses; Dystonic Quadripledgic Cerebal Palsy, Multi Symptomatic vocal seizures (which is the name of her type of epilepsy) severe Cortical vision impairment (registered blind). Needless to say due to her complex needs hospital stays or trips are a given. Esme has open access to the Children's Ward, however if she goes in via ambulance she has no choice, but to go to the A&E department. Although the staff are amazing and fantastic at what they do, she does have the issue of poor veins. Having had many needles in the last 4 years has meant Esme's veins have lots of scarring on. Although they will recover it does make it extra tricky to get blood from her.

The pictures posted are from Esme's last hospital visit. Due to Esme's diagnosis she is unable to make a fuss, and isn't always able to communicate when she is in pain. With a Vein Finder much of this bruising could be prevented.

Any donations big or small would be gratefully appreciated and knowing that any child visiting the A&E Department at St Mary's Hospital IOW won't have to go through the extra stress caused by trouble locating a vein would be a dream come true.

Why are we doing it?  To raise money for the children's A&E at St Marys Hospital to purchase a vein finder (which they are calling Esme's Light) to help doctors to find veins in children that need to give blood or have medication given, which will cause less discomfort to the child and avoid them becoming a pincushion.
