24 hour rowathon · 3 November 2017

..At Essex we’re not like other SU’s and we don’t want to be. We're a group of 13,000 students on a mission, an adventure to become the world’s most student-centred organisation. It’s ambitious and challenging, yet short enough to fit in a tweet. With two characters spare.

Story

Our club is hosting a 24 hour row-a-thon this year to raise money for our Rowing club and the other half of proceeds will be donated to Help For Heroes. It will take place at Lion Walk shopping centre, Colchester at 2pm on Friday 3rd November until 2pm on Saturday 4th November.

Why are we hosting a row-a-thon?

Money raised will support the development and running of the club. UERC have recently faced budget cuts and money raised will be vital for the future of the club. The club is significantly underfunded and relies on the support from the University of Essex Students' Union to help keep it running. Half of the proceeds will be donated to Help For Heroes, Britain's leading charity in support of service personnel.

What is Help for Heroes?

Help for Heroes is a British charity which provides practical support to wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans and their loved ones. This is achieved by providing grants to individuals and their specialist charity partners and delivering support through their network of recover centres.

More information on the brilliant work that Help For Heroes do can be found on their website. https://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/

What is a row-a-thon?

This aim is to accumulate as many metres as possible within 24 hours. Rowers will take turns to row continuously on two rowing machines over the 24-hour period. It is a tough but rewarding activity that allows our members to give something back to the club and the community.

It would mean a lot to us if you could donate to our cause. If you have any questions or enquiries, please feel free to contact us at rowing.uerc@gmail.com
