Walk for BUDS and Change the lives · 31 October 2021 ·

Join us in our annual charity walk at Bushy park on the 31st of October 2021 at 10.00 am. Life has been tough for us over the past year. Every step you take, every kilometre you clock, helps our struggling communities in Eastern province of Sri-Lanka

Story

Underprivileged children all over the world rely on support to fulfil the basic needs of a respectful life everyday. BUDS UK charity works to help underprivileged children in Sri Lanka to overcome barriers and realise their full potential.

The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting Sri Lanka profoundly, as is the case in many countries. Tourism has been affected, schools are closed, a continuous lockdown exists in most places and travel restrictions are implemented due to the spread of the virus in the country. These stringent control measures imposed by the
government are affecting children’s education and the livelihood of
daily-wage communities who are living below poverty line. As the current president of BUDS UK I am supporting this cause to raise funds by taking part in this charity walk.

The money raised from “Walk to change lives “ will allow BUDS UK to continue supporting their projects. Our community is in dire need - this is where we reach out to you. We came to you on so many occasions and you have very generously helped us to fulfil the needs. Please donate and help Buds UK to continue their charitable work for our community..

In July last year, the World Bank downgraded Sri Lanka to a lower middle income country due to a drop in per capital income for2020. A further downturn is expected once impacts of Covid-19 are factored in, making life for the poorest in Sri Lanka even more precarious.

À decade-long civil war which ended in 2009 left large pockets of poverty in the war-affected north and east.
