London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·
Hello,
My names Ethan, I hope you are well.
I’m a type one diabetic, I was diagnosed when I was 12. Since then it’s been ups and downs for a long time, I got very fit at age 14, lost it all around 16 reaching an all time high in body weight of 95kg, feeling awful, diabetes all over the place diagnosed with depression. Disappointment from friends and my clinic (all from worry of course). I ended up quitting college, quitting my first apprenticeship, rock bottom as I know it. One day I simply took a look in the mirror and decided to change. It really is that simple. I decided that nothing was going to stop me from achieving my goals. Through maticulously pIanning and trying to educate myself I started to get in shape (once again) and control my type one. Slowly and safely I started to lose weight, put on some muscle, start powerlifting and chasing my best self. This has gone really quite well and I’m incredibly proud of the progress I’ve made. (Now sitting at around 73-4kg) I’m now in the best shape of my life, proving to myself I am who I say I am. My strength is at a good level for my body weight and I’m trying to work as hard as I possibly can working two jobs to support family and to realise my own financial goals. But it’s time for a new challenge. To show I will always achievie the goals I have set for myself. I’m determined and disciplined and have already started my training. I’m doing my best and will get in the best shape of my life. My job for Surrey county council includes advocating and working with many young people who have emotional wellbeing and mental health needs as well as additional needs and disabilities, I want to be able to show them the power of discipline and hard work through this incredible opportunity. I also dream to inspire other young people who were in a similar position like myself, going through hardships whether it is type one diabetes or any other mental health or addition needs or disabilities. I look forward to taking on many more challenges in the future after completing this marathon.
There is no tomorrow
Kind regards
Ethan
