Christmas Appeal: Ethiopian preschools · 16 December 2015

Global Care is an innovative Christian charity aiming to provide effective care, education and empowerment for the most vulnerable children in the world regardless of their faith.

Story

Our work in Ethiopia – where we support five preschools in rural and semi-rural areas where school attendance is frequently poor – is a classic example of the Global Care approach.

Children are encouraged to attend a two-year preschool programme which focuses on basic literacy and numeracy, and equips pupils with the skills and confidence they need to make a success of their formal schooling, where classes may be larger, and further from home.

Over the last nine years, thousands of children have passed through the preschools, and gone on to enrol in government schools.

Last year we were able to secure funding from the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission to rebuild four of the preschools with permanent buildings, ensuring better facilities for our children, which will last over the long-term. This gave an enormous boost to all our students, staff and partners.

This Christmas we hope to encourage them again, by raising enough funds to give a stable foundation for running costs, at least for the next year or so, to enable this fantastic project to continue to grow and develop.
