Story
On the 11th January 2012 my father Callum passed away after a 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. My father had always been a very fit man playing rugby and having run several marathons.
I was shocked to discover that only 3% of the 7,660 people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK every year, will survive beyond five years.
As an archeaologist one of my father's dreams in life was to visit Machu Picchu and trek the Inca trail. My father's battle with this terrible disease has inspired me to try and raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK by trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru in his stead. The trek will accumulate more than 5000m/16500ft of ascent and descent over a 13 day period, taking in demanding trails and river crossings aswell as sections of ancient Inca highways.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is a national charity striving for a good, long life for those diagnosed with this disease. Through research, a support service and campaigning they aim to improve the statistics around this often forgotten and little known cancer. Donations help them fund research into earlier diagnosis and improved treatment options. Donations also help them provide a support service to patients and their family members affected by pancreatic cancer. It is only with the generosity of donors that they are able to carry out this work.
