Simplyhealth Great North Run 2019 · 8 September 2019 ·
Hi all,
I am running the Great North Run this year to raise money and awareness for Nerve Tumours UK.
Last year, my niece was diagnosed with a condition called Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), a multisystem genetic disorder. NF1 is a condition you're born with, although some symptoms develop gradually over many years. The severity of the condition can vary considerably from person to person.
In most cases, the skin is affected, causing symptoms such as:
Certain health problems are often associated with NF1, such as learning difficulties. Less commonly, NF1 is associated with a type of cancer known as malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours.
I want to raise awareness and much needed funds for research into NF1 and other conditions characterised by nerve tumours.
Nerve Tumours UK provides crucial support and empowerment for those affected by nerve tumours in the UK.
Nerve tumours are not limited to one group of people. Regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, disability or wealth – if not catered for appropriately, can cause intense grief and isolation.
Nerve tumours can be uncompromising, painful and punishing without the right support network. As long as the condition is around, they will strive to provide better and more targeted support. Their Nerve Tumours UK Helpline and support network is available to every region of the United Kingdom, and they endeavor to support those outside of the UK wherever possible.
They provide specialist, age-appropriate support for children and teens as well as adults.
Nerve Tumours UK is the authoritative voice of nerve tumours in the UK. They achieve this by providing first class information, support and advice; facilitating and promoting innovative research, and being an advocate for those with nerve tumours.
Please help me bolster their support!
