Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As some of you may already know, Abi has a muscle-wasting condition called limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, which primarily affects her shoulder, pelvic girdle, hip and thigh muscles.

Originally, the plan had been to undertake the marathon by myself. But the more I thought about it, the more I decided that it would not be right doing it alone. So, after much discussion and very little persuading, Abi has decided to be a part of the Great North Run 2019.

To achieve this, it means going back to the early days of our relationship, and Abi relying on me not to push her into walls, or just other people hanging around on the course as she will be using her manual chair to get around. We might not actually be running...but I am sure we can reach a top speed of at least 5MPH; wherever there is a hill that slopes downwards.

We will be taking part in support of Muscular Dystrophy and to recognise the amazing work they do to provide information, give advice, support and resources to individuals, their families, and the professionals that work with them. There are around 70,000 individuals in the UK living with one of the 60 types of muscle-wasting conditions and the work they do campaigning and supporting is vital to ensure peoples needs are met and they are included in society.

We would also like to raise awareness of disability in general.

Abi says:

Any disability can exclude people from a large part of society, and different events, or social activities. So when the opportunity arises to highlight how important inclusion is, it is always important to us these opportunities and provide an opportunity for people to talk about the issues that impact people every day.

Any support that you can give would be appreciated, and even the smallest donation can make a big difference to the work the charity does.

Thank you for your time, Evan & Abi

Some of the uses of your money.

Could give parents half an hour with a specialist physiotherapist.

Could fund half an hour of vital research into effective treatments.

Could help us to fund young scientists to become highly trained researchers.
