Story
I am running the Street Child Sierra Leone Marathon at the end of April!
I am really excited to be part of the A&O team raising money for Street Child and to have the incredible opportunity to visit Sierra Leone to see Street Child's work in person.
Street Child are A&O's charity partner and as a firm, we are aiming to raise £1m over our two year partnership. £500,000 of this target has been allocated to fund projects in the eastern province of Sierra Leone, with a specific focus on enrolling girls into secondary education. 40 primary schools will be renovated and 1,500 girls will be enrolled into secondary education (over 1,000 girls have already been enrolled as a result of the partnership!).
The funds raised by A&O are also being used for Family Business Scheme grants. These grants are provided to girls' families, alongside training and mentoring, to help families develop business plans which will create sustainable sources of income, with the aim of allowing children to remain in school and providing wider benefits to the whole family.
On average, each Family Business Scheme grant costs Street Child £240 a year and allows two children to remain in secondary education. My fundraising target is £1,500 - this would provide six families with grants and could create long term income sources and allow their children to remain in school.
Thank you so much for any donations!
