*CONTENT WARNING: child abuse*
According to the NSPCC, just under 80,000 children were sexually abused in the United Kingdom in 2018/2019. To put that into some perspective, that works out as roughly one child being raped, groomed or sexually assaulted in the UK every 7 minutes... every 7 minutes.
As a child, I was a victim of sexual abuse, and it took me many years to find the courage to talk about it with people outside of my home. It is impossible for me to overstate how fortunate I was to have had my family alongside me, as I can't begin to imagine facing the demons that I did without their love and support.
With the devastating rise in domestic abuse that has resulted from this lockdown period, I have decided that it is time that I do my bit to give back to those who have been less fortunate than I was; to raise some money to fund the selfless and untiring people who devote their lives to these innocent children who don't have the support that I did.
On 13 September, I will be running 1 metre for every child, with an aim of completing an 80km run around the streets of London. I hope that you can spare some money (whatever that amount may be) to support this wonderful charity.
Thank you.
