Story

My Dad Rob and I are attempting to climb the 29 029 feet height of Everest by the cumulative total of around 14 hill and mountain walks we plan to make over the next year which we are calling “The Everest Challenge”. We’re starting small with Worcestershire Beacon in the Malverns on Sunday 30th October and hope to finish with Ben Nevis around June 2017.

In 2010 I was diagnosed with a type of brain tumour called an AVM. Following my most recent surgery in November 2015, I became increasingly unwell culminating in 10 days spent in the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham in May 2016. I had extensive brain swelling and the neurosurgeons told my parents that they thought I would have brain damage or I would die. Thankfully neither of these things happened and I'm now on the road to recovery, however my neurologist has recommended that I take a year off from my medical degree whilst my medication is altered and the swelling fully subsides.

The Giles' Trust raise money to help research into brain tumours at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham. This charity is very relevant and important to me and I'm really looking forward to being able to do something constructive and challenging with my time off and that the money I will hopefully raise will help to make a difference.

For updates on our progress, or for details of any upcoming walks please visit our blog - we'd love you to join us!
