Story

Having worked in the care and education system in the UK, we have both experienced working with people in our society, living with autism and other neurodivergence. Our journey to understanding what neurodivergence means began with Emma's diagnosis of dyslexia aged 9 and later Evie’s dyslexia diagnosis before taking her GCSE exams. These discoveries led to other diagnoses across our extended family. We have learnt strategies to understand the way we process in our day-to-day lives and this has impacted those around us.

1 in every 44 8-year-old children has autism in the UK. We feel very passionate about running for Team Autism; particularly for womxn and girls who often go undiagnosed at school and in the workplace. This can lead to feelings of isolation, impacting on mental health. There is a link between Autism and the transgender and non-binary communities. Acknowledgement of this link could help lead to a more inclusive society. By spreading awareness and raising money, we can also help to support those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups who don't always have access to a diagnosis and support.

We believe there should be a greater awareness of autism within our whole society to enable a more friendly and accepting world for all. By running the London Marathon in 2023, we hope to spread awareness of the work of the National Autistic Society, opening up a dialogue about what we can all do to make a difference.

Thank you for supporting us by donating to the National Autistic Society. The money we raise will transform lives, change attitudes and help us to work towards a society that works for autistic people.
