Story
Since coming to Loughborough University so many opportunities have been made available to me and one of these is a tandem skydive to raise money for a charity of my choice. The charity that I have chosen is one which has played a large role in my family’s life particularly my sister Amy. Amy was born visually impaired meaning she has not had access to the same opportunities and experiences that many other young people have had. VICTA is a charity that supports children and young adults from the ages 0-29 who are blind and partially sighted as well as playing a role in supporting their families. A charity like this is so vital to young people like my sister who without it would lack particular skill sets, support and confidence that enables them to lead fulfilled and happy lives which they are so deserving of. They have helped Amy by providing her with technologies such as an orbit reader and an iPad as well as different courses like the self-advocacy course and a Spanish speaking course. VICTA has also helped my parents by providing them with opportunities to learn and share experiences with other families through workshops, family days and access to a parent portal.
A skydive is an activity that I have always wanted to do and the fact that I am doing it to raise money for such an amazing charity means that it is a very special experience, as my sister means the absolute world to me. The skydive will take place on a yet to be confirmed date in May 2023 at Langar Airfield in Nottingham and my target is to raise £550. I appreciate any donations whether they are big or small. Thank you.
