The Rory Peck Trust provides practical & financial support to freelance journalists and their families worldwide, assisting in times of crisis and helping them work more safely and professionally. We do this through assistance grants, our training fund, and online resources, as well as our Awards.

Story

So Evie (my daughter) and I are running a 2 day mountain marathon in the Black Mountains of Wales to raise money for The Rory Peck Trust.

The Rory Peck Trust is an international NGO that supports freelance journalists and their families in crisis. Based in London, UK, it provides practical assistance and support to freelance journalists worldwide, to raise their profile, promote their welfare and safety, and to support their right to report freely and without fear.

The fundamentals of the OMM event are self reliance, route selection, moving quickly over difficult terrain, kit management, endurance, teamwork & sound mountain judgement.

Whats the challenge?
On the start line you & your partner will receive a map of your chosen course. Your team must then a plan a route to visit the marked checkpoints finishing at the overnight wild camp on day 1.

You are expected to use your understanding of the terrain & conditions you’re heading into to choose the kit you will need for the 2 days. This includes the unsupported overnight wild camp.

Day 2 you will receive a new map and selection of checkpoints. You will then plan a route that will take you into a different area of the 400km2 course before returning to the finish.

About the OMM:

The UK’s biggest mountain race has shaped the UK outdoor community for 50 years. Since 1968 the UK’s greatest running legends, product creators & influential people have stood on the start line. In October 2000 competitor will gather again for the 51st event.
