Story

Hello Everyone!

Earlier this year at the age of 37 I heard the dreaded words of “it’s breast cancer!”. Needless to say it came as a massive shock and I felt like my whole life had been flipped upside down. I never thought it would happen to me. The following days it was as if I was walking through a fog of worry and doubt, but the world doesn’t stop just because you have cancer, especially if you are a mum of 2 young boys. So with this weighing on my mind I carried on with life and was determined to fight every day, to keep our lives as normal as possible for the sake of my boys. Unfortunately, the diagnosis and treatment took its toll on me physically and emotionally.
I was fortunate enough to have an amazing support network of friends and family to ease the burden slightly. I also had the privilege to attend “Time For You” sessions run by Weston Hospicecare and the Wellbeing Centre. These sessions allowed me to connect back with myself and regain my emotional and mental health. At these sessions I was able to meet and talk with other people in similar situation, and enjoy relaxation and complimentary therapies. It helped me to take my mind off everything that was going on and focus just on myself.
To show my gratitude, I am now raising money for Weston Hospicecare, so that the wonderful staff and volunteers can continue to help others. To do this I have decided to run at least 30 miles in 30 days for the 30th anniversary of Weston Hospicecare.
I have committed to run at least 1 mile a day between the 8th of November and 7th of December 2019.
Please help me make a difference!
Ewa
