It has been a while since I have 'donned' some running attire in aid of a good cause - I imagine my speed and aptitude for long distance running will be somewhat akin to that of Simon Pegg in his film "Run Fatboy Run". However, every now and again there is a cause that makes you think you should get your lazy backside into gear and help them raise money....Support Dogs is such a cause.

If you are unfamiliar with Support Dogs I implore you to look at their webpage for further information. In brief though they provide specially trained dogs who are able to inform their owner that they are about to suffer an epileptic seizure, sometimes up to an hour in advance before their owner has one. It is rather incredible what these dogs can do and it allows these individuals to lead an independent life in what is often a misunderstood condition. My brother has epilepsy and fortunately is now well controlled; however, there was a time when that was not the case. Had we been aware of Support Dogs when he was younger it would have given my parent's a much greater peace of mind. 

It isn't just people with epilepsy which these dogs can help though. People who have learning and/or physical disabilities are also enabled through these "Super-Pooches".
