We support homeless and vulnerable people to a future of greater stability and hope

Story

Hello, my friend!

We want to share with you a story about people and for people.

About us We are 4 young volunteers from România, Greece and Germany, who came to London for a social international project - "Teaching and Fundraising for Homeless at the Spires Centre"  (Streatham).  We applied through a global platform coordinated by AIESEC, the biggest world volunteer organization (since 1948), so we were selected from many candidates, and after February 15 we took our flight to the UK. Our main purpose is to reach our goals, for me, Tudor Burlacu and Lena Filger to collect enough money through our fundraising activities for the daily expenses at the centre and for Pia May and Panagiotis Melekos to create activities and interactive sessions to encourage and educate the center's clients (people with a situation unfavorable,  homeless etc.). We come to the Spires Centre every day from 8.30 am to 2 pm and we are implicated in daily activities to help and create an impact for the local community, to engage in social activities and to strengthen our skills in volunteering.
About Spireshttp://www.spires.org.uk/ - a charity with a day care centre, and we support anyone who is in a state of need. Our clients have complex needs ranging from homelessness, insecure accommodation, unemployment, problems, with mental and physical health, addiction and substance abuse, domestic abuse and imprisoned in sex work with entrenched addictions and chaotic lifestyles. Along with the basic provision of food, clothing, showers and healthcare, we also provide for our client’s longer terms needs by offering them appropriate support, advice and referral from our team of fully trained support worker.

So far we have lived unique and beautiful moments together with the beneficiaries  of the center. We enjoyed greatly that we can help them with the necessary utilities and even offer them moral support. Having a simple talk about the "

How are they feel or how are you doing today?Tell me, how can I help you?

" it help someone and made their day better. Those people,  have many sad and different stories behind, now homeless, they find a home for them at Spires.

Some of them are old, some are lonely, some are locked in, but after all, they are people like us.

Be aware of what's happening around your community and make a choice, not only for you. We encourage you for a financial donation in order to raise enough resources for a change, for Spire, for people!
We present ot you examples of our daily expenses:

  • £5 could pay for socks for 10 clients who are sleeping rough.
  • £12 can pay for a replacement ID for someone who needs to set up a bank account for their benefits.
  • £100 can pay for food for one week. This means 200 meals for the service users!
  • £500 can pay for one month's one-to-one-support for 18 clients. This includes emotional and practical support and referrals to external agencies for additional specialist care.
