WVA Manhattan 32 · 17 April 2021

The IMF uses running to drive social change and celebrate Indigenous resilience and achievement. Each year IMF selects a squad of 12 Indigenous men and women to train in just six months to run the New York City Marathon, with little or no prior running experience. The squad also completes a Certificate III in Fitness to provide ongoing education and career pathways and return to their communities as inspirational role models to encourage active and healthy lifestyles.

Story

Just over a month ago, a small pod of fellow New Yorkers and I decided to run the perimeter of Manhattan on April 17th. This will be the longest run of my life - 32 mile / 51.5 kilometer distance.

I am raising money for the Indigenous Marathon Project. This incredible organisation supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders from the most remote communities in Australia to run the New York City Marathon, the longest distance run of their lives.

Over the course of the year leading up to the 42.2 km / 26.22 mile race, Australian world champion marathon runner Rob de Castella works with each runner to become an extraordinary athlete and leader in their community.

By supporting this work, you are transforming the lives and communities who are part of the world’s oldest living culture.
