Welcome to the Limerick climbs Kilimanjaro campaign! These incredible students are taking on the challenge of a lifetime all whilst helping in the fight against meningitis and septicaemia.

Story

My name is Fabian Mangan and I am a 21 year old University of Limerick student who will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on the 22nd of August at my own expense to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF). MRF is at the heart of the initiative that is working with the World Health Organisation and leading experts on the disease to tackle meningitis globally. Meningitis and new born sepsis today is responsible for more deaths than Malaria, Measles, Tetanus and AIDs in children under 5 years of age and affects more than 5 million people annually. MRF's final goal is to defeat meningitis and septicemia by 2030.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro has always been a goal of mine and the fact that I can do it for a great cause motivates me even more. Between now and the climb I will be undertaking physical challenges and well as organising fundraising events in order to raise money.

Any support or donation no matter how small is greatly appreciated, please feel free to share to friends and family.

I am looking forward to this challenge as it will take me outside my comfort zone but I am sure it will be the journey of a lifetime.

Many thanks,

Fabian

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
