Running 10k to raise money for Yemen's humanitarian crisis · 19 July 2020

Ummah Welfare Trust was founded in 2001 with the goal of challenging the huge poverty and injustice prevalent in the Ummah today. Inspired by the Islamic teachings of empathy and selflessness, the charity strives to support and uplift the impoverished through the beautiful act of charity.

Story

With the ongoing conflict in Yemen – already one of the poorest countries in the region – tens of thousands of lives have been lost and over 20 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from. A country crippled by conflict is now facing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

With families facing ongoing armed conflict, displacement, disease and economic decline, an estimated 24 million people (80% of the country’s population) are now in need of humanitarian aid to survive – a figure so high that it is in fact the highest across the globe.

Yemen now officially hosts the world’s largest human-induced food security crisis.

Families and communities have been torn apart and left without even the most basic of living essentials:

  • 19.7 million people need basic healthcare
  • Almost 18 million people are in need of water and sanitation facilities
  • Over 3 million people have been left displaced by conflict
The economy and infrastructure of what was already the poorest country in the Middle East is today in ruins. On the ground in Yemen, the situation is dire and things are getting worse each and every day.

Ummah Welfare Trust has launched an emergency appeal for suffering families in Yemen. Through local partners, the charity is delivering emergency assistance to displaced and hungry families.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

‘The people of Yemen have the most tender of hearts and softest of souls; and they are the most obedient (in the worship of Allah).’

[Ahmad]

So, what can we do to help?

I have decided to run 10K on the 19th July (InShaAllah) in order to raise money for the Yemeni people.

I am not someone who runs regularly and since lockdown I've been far less active. However, I would like to train and challenge myself with a 10K run whilst (with your help) raising money for the Yemeni people.

It is our duty to come to the suffering Yemeni people's aid and support them with that which God has blessed us with. Please remember, these blessings are all but temporary gifts so we should all use them wisely.

I ask of you to please, please, donate to the cause. No donation is too small and if you cannot donate then please, share this fundraiser to your families, friends and communities.

Just £70.00 will feed a family for two months InShaAllah.

Thank you and may Allah accept all our efforts. Ameen 🙏
