We started making face masks for people in our community as part of The Big Community Sew, but thought we might also be able to make some money for the NHS. We set a modest target of £100.
NHS staff and volunteers are doing amazing work right now in caring for COVID-19 patients.Together, let's show our respect and gratitude as they work tirelessly in the face of the virus. It's our turn to make sure we look after them, to ensure they can keep doing their vital work.
NHS Charities Together, endorsed by NHS England, acknowledges and supports NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by coronavirus.
In these difficult times, it gives us all as individuals, groups and organisations the chance to show we care and to make a difference.
About the Face Masks
The Government is now recommending wearing cloth face coverings in public spaces where social distancing is difficult, like shops, at work and on public transport.
These washable face masks are not medical grade; medical/surgical masks should be reserved for use as PPE by healthcare workers.
Face coverings are not a substitute for social distancing or washing your hands regularly – and they need to complement these behaviours. Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser before putting it on and after taking it off and after use. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth at all times and store used face coverings in a plastic bag until you have an opportunity to wash them.
Don’t touch the front of the face covering, or the part of the face covering that has been in contact with your mouth and nose. Once removed, make sure you clean any surfaces the face covering has touched.
You should wash the face covering after each wear. It can go in with other laundry, at 60 degrees, using your normal detergent.
