Farihas' Fundraising challenge · 15 July 2018

Having experienced the distressing scenes of refugees arriving on the shores of the Greek islands, who are subsequently not able to travel further due to border closures and are left totally reliant on charity for clothing and food, we have built a team of volunteers who are working with local, national and international voluntary organisations to safely and swiftly provide life saving aid for those who have lost everything and now have little to call their own.

Story

The Ripple Effect is an amazing local charity, set up by 3 women who have tirelessly fundraised for goods, medicines and toiletries which they take out to refugee camps in Greece. They send lorry loads of goods and fly out to help distribute aid often at their own expense.

I dont have the physical or emotional resilience to do what they do. However I would like to help by raising money that can be used to buy  toys and books for the children who through no fault of their own are forced to live in refugee camps.

As I have no real skill set or talent I am asking you to help my campaign. I shall be setting myself personal goals for the year ahead from 15th July 2018 to 15th July 2019. You can either donate through the goodness of your hearts or to push me to achieve these goals. Or if there is something you would pay to see me do (within reason) then set me a challenge and I will try to do it for a donation. (If the challenge costs a lot of money like sky diving you have to pay as I would rather give the money to a good cause).

My year long challenge, for those of you who know me is a true feat of willpower,  is not to eat crisps for an entire year.

My other challenges to date, set by so called friends, are:

1) Inspired by the Red Cross campaign to Run/Walk/Cyle miles for refugees. I will walk/cycle 22 miles each month from now (6th September) until July 2019

2) Shave my hair to a stubble and get it dyed Rainbow Pride colours

3) No alcohol for 6 months

4) Cycle 120 miles

5) Learn the cyrillic alphabet

6) Read Plainsong by Kent Haruf

Feel free to pledge for any or all of the above, just hand over your cash or think of your own challenge.

I cannot imagine having to flee for my life.  I cannot imagine doing what these amazing ladies do. I can only try and raise a little money to try and help those who have suffered unbelievable hardship.
