Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Last year I was stressed, depressed and overweight. My mum had breast cancer the previous year but was successfully treated early on but the thought still niggled at me. With a little boy of four, and as an older (shhh !) single mum I was worried that my health wasnt as it should be and fretted about the future for my little boy if anything should happen to me. So I knew I had to sort myself out and make sure I was fit and healthy - even if I was still a little on the large side.
A few of my friends also wanted to make changes in their life and so we put a small whatsapp group together to motivate each other and set ourselves the target of completing 10k in the BUPA 10000 in London May 2015. I had never ran 10k before but by that point I had lost 4 stone and felt amazing. We did it - all of us! The sense of achievement was fantastic.
Then I heard an interesting fact .... with the current research and support cancer could be wiped out totally within the next 15 years. This fact shocked me and it occurred to me, with just a little bit of effort and fundraising, I could be securing my own future and that of my sons not to mention friends and family. This spurred me on to search for small events that kept me fit whilst at the same time raising important funds.
So we entered more fundraising running events and our little fat but fit group grew as more people joined us.
This year, motivated by our own personal success and desire to help support our family and friends, a couple of us from the fat but fit group have decided to undertake the London to Paris Bike Ride in July 2016 to raise money and awareness for Macmillan Cancer Support. We are fat but fit on wheels.
So, I'd like to ask you to do two things ....
1. Have a celebratory drink on July 17th and think of us as we arrive in Paris, slightly less fat but a whole lot fitter and hopefully all still on wheels.
2. Think about your future and that of your friends and family and how we could wipe out cancer within 15 years and sponsor me if you can.
Many thanks
