Father Hudson's 116th Fundraising Ball · 1 February 2020

Children, adults and families find a helping hand and listening ear in difficult times. Disabled and older people are empowered to live full lives through our adult care team. And people from all walks of life are supported in their times of need by Father Hudson's and its community partners.

Story

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak the event has been cancelled for this year. You can still donate via this page.

For over a hundred years, our annual Ball has raised vital funds for the work of Father Hudson’s Care. From funding support services at Brushstrokes Community Project, through providing a multi-purpose garden room for social activities at St Joseph’s Residential Care Home and St Vincent’s Independent Living Apartments, to extra-curricular activities and a Youth Club for looked-after children at New Routes Fostering, the Ball has enabled more adults, families and children to benefit from enhanced services that just could not be funded in any other way.

This year the Committee has chosen to support St Joseph’s Residential Care Home. In 2013, the Ball funded a new conservatory which continues to help St Joseph’s residents socialise with each other and their families. Manager Shelley Perryman says: ‘The conservatory is a godsend. It gets used throughout the year for parties, activities and especially at Christmas when residents can enjoy Christmas dinner with their family and friends because of the extra room it affords. Without it, we just wouldn’t all be able to get together – residents, staff, carers and families. It’s vital.’

Now, with more than a third of us having a family member or close friend living with dementia and the prevalence of the condition projected to increase exponentially, the Committee felt called to support the fantastic work of St Joseph’s again this year.

As a leader in supporting people living with dementia, St Joseph’s want to purchase a sensory Living Wall. Capable of taking people back to their childhood, engaging with happy memories, remembering holiday times and more, a Living Wall will enable staff and residents to share again in happy times. Carer on Jade Ward, Aileen Grinnell, says: ‘A Living Wall will make a huge difference to residents by reminding them of their childhood memories spent by the seaside or of family days out when their children were younger. This will be very good for sensory development as there will be items on the Living Wall that residents can touch, feel, hear and smell.
