Make-A-Wish UK is part of a global movement that exists to make life-changing wishes come true for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK. The power of a wish allows families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Story

My auntie Beth carried a rare condition called Li Fraumeni Syndrome, which predisposes its sufferers to various forms of cancer. The condition was then passed down to her two daughters Poppy and Rosy which caused the unimaginable to happen.

Poppy was just 3 years old when they found her first tumour. She was diagnosed again at the age of 6 and was in and out of hospital for most of her short life. By the age of 9 she was diagnosed with leukemia, which meant more gruelling sessions of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant which left her in constant agony. She finally lost her battle just 4 days after her 10th birthday.

Rosy was 18 months when she was first diagnosed with cancer of the bladder. At the age of 8 they found a bone tumour in her leg which lead to years of intensive chemotherapy, major surgeries to have ribs removed and excruciating pain in her leg, she eventually had her leg amputated at the age of ten. By the age of 12 the cancer had spread to her spine which caused her to be paralysed from the waist down, leaving her devastated. She lost her battle only a few months after.

After the pain and suffering of losing 2 daughters, my auntie was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer of the Liver at the beginning of this year. We were devastated to hear the news of her passing last week, which subsequently inspired me to do something in her memory.

Beth and her family had been through more than anyone can imagine, but they still managed to battle through with a smile on their face despite everything. Make a Wish allowed the girls to have incredible and memorable experiences which gave the family hope and happiness in a time of darkness. Something for which we are forever grateful.

Make-A-Wish UK grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. Granting their wish provides seriously ill children with hope for the future, strength to cope and resilience to fight their condition. They’re given quality time away from the daily realities of living with their condition and given the chance to make magical memories they can treasure forever – whatever their future may hold. We want to transform the lives of 1,000 children this year by granting their One True Wish!

Happy Fundraising! <3
