Story

FINAL EVENT UPDATE AND DETAILS:

Saturday 28th March, 11am - 1pm, Powerleague Tottenham, N17 0SL.

Come and join us for an exhibition match featuring players on the THF Blind Futsal Development Squad. It's a great opportunity to learn a bit about the sport and see the action up close. As part of the event, Spartak players who have participated in this project will give a short demonstration of some of the blindfolded football skills we have learned in our training sessions throughout this project. Have a look here to get an idea of what we have been up to!

In a couple of sentences, what is this all about?

Blind Futsal is an incredible sport;

here, have a look!

FC Spartak 09 are fundraising for the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, so that they can provide more opportunities for people to get involved with grassroots Blind Futsal in London.

What on earth are you actually doing and why should I sponsor you?

The ‘challenge’ that FC Spartak 09 are participating in as a club is a little unusual. We’re not climbing a mountain or running a marathon...

As a team, we have attended several training sessions where have learned about the sport of Blind Futsal, and had some practical experience of playing a basic version of blindfolded football ourselves. We have been developing our communication, movement, teamwork and ball control skills whilst working with blindfolds on – all under the guidance of FA qualified coaches who work with top level athletes within the sport.

On Saturday 28th March 2015 we will showcase the skills we have learned in a competitive challenge as a ‘warm up act’ to a full match between two real Blind Futsal teams.

We have been on an educational journey together and have been looking to raise awareness of the sport as we go, sharing our experiences on social media.

We take our blindfolds off at the end of our training sessions and life goes back to normal, but for the athletes who play this game blindness is a permanent part of life. Blind Futsal is a growing sport in the UK, and we’re asking for your help to ensure that it continues to grow and provide opportunities for people to participate at a grassroots level.

What will the money that we raise go towards?

Our fundraising target of £1500 will allow the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to provide the following crucial things:

  • Recruitment of new blind footballers, resulting in more players involved in the FA National Blind Futsal League.
  • An increase in the number of training sessions, resulting in more contact time for players.
  • Purchase of new equipment for the team.

We hope that with your help we can exceed this target and therefore enable even more of these things to take place.

Why have you chosen this cause?

At the club’s July 2013 AGM, FC Spartak 09 resolved to adopt a ‘social responsibility’ project. Most professional football clubs make an effort to put something back into the community, and we as an amateur club felt that our size should be no barrier to us trying to do something similar.

A space was created for ideas to be suggested, and after exploring a few options we democratically decided that Blind Futsal was a cause we were inspired by and would like to support as a club.
