Our training provides local surgeons with the specialist skills they need to work in war and disaster zones. Critically, these skills enable them to save more lives. We've trained over 800 surgeons from some of the most war-torn & poorest places on earth.

Story

We are a new student society at King’s College London, raising awareness of and fundraising for the David Nott Foundation.

The David Nott Foundation was established in 2015 with the aim of educating surgeons and medical professionals with the skills to provide relief and assistance in conflict and natural disaster zones around the world. Through education, these surgeons can then teach others and improve both local healthcare and medical education in countries where need is most acute.

We will be raising awareness of the work of the Foundation at the university and fundraising for them. The money raised goes towards teaching surgeons, many being from countries affected by conflict around the world. The teaching is done in two ways: firstly in London, at the Surgical Training for Austere Environments (STAE) course that David Nott teaches at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Scholars are chosen for their commitment to humanitarian surgery and priority is given to those from resource-poor or conflict-afflicted regions. We pay for their course fee, travel, visas, accommodation and sustenance when they are in the UK.’ (David Nott Foundation). The teaching is also taken out around the world with the Hostile Environment Surgical Training (HEST) course - ‘We have held three courses in Gaziantep, Turkey, for Syrian surgeons, doctors and midwives. We have also held courses in Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Libya and Lebanon.’

We are an independent student group, not the David Nott Foundation themselves, however are working with the David Nott Foundation directly to raise awareness of their work amongst university students and hopefully help train even more doctors.
