Why we're doing this
We want to give back to Crumlin and say thank you after receiving such positive support, kindness and care throughout this year when our baby girl Freya had to undergo open heart surgery. We ask you to support this worthy cause with us and join in some festive fun.
In April, our little girl Freya was born in Limerick and thankfully the wonderful paediatrics team detected a potential heart problem prior to discharge. She was taken to Crumlin to the Children's Heart Centre where she was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and we were advised that Freya would require open heart surgery. Freya had her surgery in September, spending 10 days in Crumlin, and is now thriving.
Approximately 500 children require open heart surgery per year in Ireland and half in the first year of their life. So Freya is part of a wider heart community and as most families who have had similiar experiences can testify of the wonderful life giving work carried out on a daily basis in and we are eternally grateful to all the medical staff, cardiologist, surgeons and nurses who made the daunting experience less traumatic.
