This April I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Bookmark Reading Charity.

I have chosen the Bookmark Reading Charity as I enjoy reading and I think that it's important that everyone has a chance to gain the benefits it offers.

Bookmark Reading Charity's goal is this: "We want every child to read. We improve children’s literacy by promoting a reading for pleasure culture in primary schools, with a focus on supporting children in the most disadvantaged communities."

Currently, one in four children leave school unable to read well, which can lead to lower educational attainment, adult literacy challenges, and barriers to life success. Reading for pleasure can also help children gain confidence, become happier, and have better self-esteem.

Bookmark improves children's confidence and motivation through one-to-one sessions provided by volunteers while donations are used to gift books to schools' libraries, run reading and literacy programmes and provide copies of The Story Corner Magazine to children who may not have books of their own at home. All of these contribute to improved reading attainment and educational outcomes.

What your donation could do:

£5 could pay for a new book to be gifted to a school library

£14 could pay for a headset to be gifted to a school so they can run the charity's online reading programme

£50 could pay for 115 children to be given a copy of The Story Corner magazine to take home
