Great North Run 2017 · 10 September 2017 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

On November 6th 2016 my mother passed away suddenly, but peacefully after a 22 year battle with Parkinson's disease.

Rachel was very aware of what was in store for her as the Parkinson's disease progressed, yet she faced life with great dignity and stoicism.

Rachel remains in our hearts as a much loved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunty and granny. Her courage and fortitude are an inspiration to not only our family, but to all those who knew her or had come into contact with her. We want to continue to remember her for her warmth, love, smiles and wonderful times that Rachel was able to share with us throughout her life.

I am participating in the Great North Run 2017 not only as a personal challenge, but also to raise money for and to continue to raise awareness of Parkinson's Disease as the researchers strive towards finding a cure.

I know that Rachel will be very proud of me.
