London 24-hour Swim Relay - 2022 · 11 June 2022 to 12 June 2022 ·

A 24 hour swim relay at Shepperton Open Water Swim to raise money for swimming lessons for children with disabilities.

Story

In June, I will be (to put it very generously) making up the numbers in a 24 hour swim relay, in a lake. An actual lake. Full of beastly mud and oomska.

This is the event:

Each team can have up to eight people in it, and each team member swims for an hour at a time. The rest of the team will be doing multiple swims within that, but so far I've just put myself down for one hour, because that already feels like a big enough challenge for me. I am happy swimming in a pool, where I can see the bottom, and stop every 25 metres to cling on to something and cough/retch when I need to. I don't (yet) feel the same magical qualities that Katie reports from swimming in large puddles of unknown origin :-)

Each participant has been asked to raise £150 for Level Water - a charity that provides specialist one-to-one swimming lessons for disabled children. That's what I'll be reminding myself of, every time I want to chicken out. If you'd like to donate, that'd be lovely.
