Ffion's London Marathon Fundraiser for Mind

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my just giving page. I am really excited (and absolutely terrified) to be running the London Marathon on October 3rd 2021 in support of Mind. Any donations are hugely appreciated- big or small! Please do spread the word too! Follow my journey over on instagram too @ffion_mol
Tackling mental health problems, especially in the growing mental health crisis, is a cause very close to my heart and I know so many of my friends and family too. It goes without saying that we have probably all experienced challenges with our mental health or know someone close to us who has. Lots of us may have even lost people to mental health problems. As many as 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem- anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, phobias, panic disorders- the list goes on. So many more people are afraid to reach out and it’s charities like Mind that provide information and support to help people who are suffering. Especially those suffering in silence.
For me, it was after finding a way out of a very unhealthy and scary relationship that had consumed my time at university, that made me realise anxiety was really effecting me. I was lucky to have supportive friends and family around me that constantly encouraged me. For people that don’t have this, Mind is a lifeline and reminds you that you are not alone.
In particular I was nudged in the direction of running, something I’m really grateful for. Ever since I have found it a great way to relax, blow off steam and clear my mind (cliche I know, but true). I wasn’t a natural runner at all when I started so I began with Couch to 5k and struggled running 30 seconds, I hated it! However it really was one of the only things that took my mind off trauma in the past and got me looking positively at the future. The perseverance was well worth it.
The Marathon might well see me off but I’ll be giving it my best shot and even if I have to crawl across the finish line I'll be happy. What better way to raise money for Mind than with something that has helped me get to the place I am today, not perfect everyday but feeling stronger and happier.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I really appreciate any support and donations. London Marathon I'm coming for you!! (or more likely- you're coming for me eek)
