Fi & Sam's Cornwall Coast Path Charity Walk - Ataxia UK · 3 June 2021

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

We are walking 293 miles of rough coastal terrain to raise money for Cornwall Mind and the Ataxia Society. A continuous 3 week walk from Plymouth to Bude carrying gear and food on our backs. When it became clear we wanted to organise a fundraising event, walking the entire Cornwall portion of the South West Coast Path seemed like a perfect fit for the two charities we've chosen. The mental health benefits that a wonderful asset like the South West Coast Path can bring to people's lives are abundant. For sufferer's of Ataxia, the South West Coast Path is symbolic of the freedom to roam which this degeniterive condition can so sadly impede.
