Story
Starting on Feb 24th 2011 I will run from the Anglesey in the north of Wales to Barry in the south within a week, a total of 215 miles. The aim is to complete between 26 and 30 miles a day. I will be supported by a sports massage therapist, but intend to run the entire challenge solo. I hope to be able to persuade local runners to join me en route, and raise the profile of women’s running in Wales. I will also be raising money for Swansea Women’s Aid.
Swansea Women’s Aid provides support and information to women and children who have experience of domestic abuse, past or present. The aid workers have specialist knowledge on issues relating to domestic abuse and how it can affect the lives of women and children. They offer direct access refuge accommodation, safe house accommodation, a resettlement project, tenancy support, and specialist support for children in refuge in the community. They also offer, an outreach project which provides support and information for women living in the community and an independent domestic violence advocate who helps women through court and planning for their personal safety.
For a former fatty and couch potato, just a few years ago the thought of running across an entire country would have had me gasping with laughter, now it is a reality. Please help me make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable women in Wales, and show everyone what really can be done if you just set your mind to it.
