Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Several of Henry's family members are doing various events such as the Edinburgh Marathon (25th May), a 272 mile sponsored cycle from John O Groats to Henry's house on the 19th July, a raffle and charity disco on the 26th July in order to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer care, in memory of Henry and his cousins Harry, Robert and Derek Gibbon who sadly have all died of cancer related illnesses.
Very sadly we lost Henry at the end of last year. He was diagnosed with a musculoskeletal cancer in April 2012. The diagnosis was a shock to all. Despite surgery and chemotherapy he succumbed to the illness on the 21st November 2013. Typically of Henry, his illness was borne with courage despite the obvious pain and functional restriction the cancer caused. He continued to work until the last few weeks, when he was physically unable to do so. During the last few weeks he spent a number of periods in the hospital, but his wish was always to be at home with his family.
In the latter stages of Henry's illness the support of the Marie Curie nurses was invaluable in acheiving his wish of dying at home. We don't think we fully understood the role of this group of carers. It was only having experienced their work first hand that we feel we truly understand the role they play. In particular, allowing people like Henry to die at home with the comfort of their family around them.
It is with this in mind that we are cycling from John O' Groats to Lundin Links - 272 miles (Henry's Home) for Marie Curie in recognition and thanks for the fantastic work they do.
Please consider contributing to my JustGiving page in Memory of Henry and his cousins to raise some well deserved funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
We will continue to update our JustGiving page with all the fundraising and training we are doing over the next few months.
