The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, we're doing whatever it takes to help more people with cancer get the best care the UK has to offer, whoever and wherever they are. To donate, volunteer, raise money or campaign with us, call 0300 1000 200 or visit macmillan.org.uk

Story

I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on 31.03.2018. Chemotherapy treatment was unsuccessful and by summer 2018 I urgently needed a bone marrow transplant to survive.

Macmillan nurses and support were there for my mum when she had, and ultimately died of breast cancer 23 years ago. Macmillan has also supported me and my family over the last 12 months through my travels with AML and bone marrow transplant. I’d like to be able to give something back to this Charity so that they can continue to provide their services to many more cancer patients and their families. Please, if you can, support me doing the Northumberland 26.2 mile Mighty Hike on July 6th 2019 and donate to this amazing Charity.

I’m not currently sure whether I’ll be fit enough to walk 26.2 miles in a day.....but as some of you will know, I am a stubborn moose so will definitely give it my best shot! One of the photos is of me and my brother, Julian, who has also decided to do this event and walk with me.

Cancer, it would appear, despite ongoing research and improved treatment, is not going away any time soon. Support services like Macmillan are crucial to patients and their families. On a personal level, this has been the most lonely and terrifying experience of my life, and whilst physical scars may heal in time, the psychological trauma is something much harder to deal with. Walking helps me keep my head clear so I am looking forward to training and being outside!

My biggest fear is leaving my kids behind and not being able to see them grow up into beautiful strong women. My hope is that others never have to go through this, and that cancer can ultimately be considered a treatable illness rather than a death sentence.

Thanks for supporting my fundraising. Macmillan Cancer Support is here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support. So whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right right there with you.Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure.
