Story

Hi, all!

I had my head shaved on Friday 19th June to raise money for the EllenorLions Hospice. It’s a local charity that provides care to relieve the impact of disease on people’s lives and any sponsorship you can donate will help them continue their amazing work.

As some of you know already, Abrica Bennett was diagnosed with a brain tumour over 4 years ago, when we were only in Year 9. Abrica’s an absolute fighter, no questions, and her recovery was truly remarkable. Now, we’ve decided to acknowledge one of the groups who made a real difference during her treatment by fundraising for them.

Here’s a message from Abrica:

Hi everyone, I'm Abrica as you probably all guessed!

During my time of illness the Ellenor charity helped me and my family so much. They provided a life line between isolation and normality. Holding coffee mornings wasn't all they did, however. The nurses are mainly volunteers with only a few staff being paid and rely mainly on donations. The section of the Ellenor Team that helped me were the Ellenor Shining Lights Team. They focus on children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions. During my time spent with the Ellenor nurse, I found out about many more illnesses and how the team was helping to provide for the other children at home and at the centre. They hold a monthly youth group so the children and siblings can share experiences and recieve any help that they need from the team. They give help and support to the sick child's parents and siblings, which means more to them than words can say. Without the Ellenors help it would have been a struggle to get back to the daily norms of life during my illness but provided fantastic support during my school life too. To be able to thank the charity in this way would mean so much and pay back only a small part to what they have given to me, as the time and help they gave me and others is impossible to put a price on...

....So please help support Fiona in doing this event as it means so much to me her doing it. It doesn't matter how much you can donate as every penny counts and can help so many people in so many different ways. Your support is greatly appreciated =]
Thankyou everyone and Thankyou Fiona

Love Abrica xxx

So I went bald a week before our Graduation Ball!

Aaron of The Red Lion (Crete Hall Road, Gravesend) and Dave of Fiendish Promotions generously provided a venue and stage for the head-shave itself, so a big thank you to them both. Thank you Gemma, too, for bravely taking to the stage to actually shave my head and also to everyone else who came along. £113.14 was raised on the night which would not have been possible without all of you there!

The cause means a great deal to both Abrica and myself, so any support is greatly appreciated. Plus, sponsoring me through Justgiving gets your money to the EllenorLions Hospice quicker, and adds another 28% to the total raised in Gift Aid and supplements - bonus!

Once again, thank you all for your support.

All the best,

Fiona
