Story

Keith and I will be taking part in the Anglesey and Gwynedd Relay for life in June 25. This is a 24 hour relay walk and we are entering as part of Team Chemocare, the charity set up by my niece and sister-in-law. Along with close family and friends we will be raising money for Cancer Research. Cancer has plagued my family since 2011, when at the age of 45, I was first diagnosed and underwent six months of treatment and recovery.

In 2017 my beloved Mum was taken from us 5 months after being diagnosed with Oesophageal cancer. In 2019, at the age of 45, my youngest brother was diagnosed with bowel cancer and underwent six months of aggressive treatment and in 2023 my eldest brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer. We three siblings are survivors. Having all had major surgery and treatment. We have had intense genetic testing carried out in Wales and England and there is no genetic link between our cancers, bad luck I suppose. Please help us to raise much-needed funds to continue with the research and continue to help people like me and my two brothers remain survivors.

Relay For Life celebrates the power of community fundraising to make breakthroughs happen. Across the UK and the globe, teams of friends, families and colleagues fundraise for world-leading research to save and improve lives, then unite as a community at an event to honour everyone affected by cancer and celebrate the progress we’re making.

How does the money you raise power progress?

- £65 could buy special restriction enzymes. These act like molecular scissors to cut long strands of DNA, allowing our scientists to find out more about the genes that can cause cancer.

- £220 could fund our team of nine cancer nurses for one hour. Our nurse helpline offers confidential support and guidance to people affected by cancer.

When you fundraise for Relay For Life, you’re helping fund research and make discoveries. You’re helping bring about a world where everybody can live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.

Together we are beating cancer.

Thank you for your support.
