As you may already know Lily was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in August 2009, almost 10 years ago!!
Since diagnosis she has endured over 25000 blood tests, a further 24000 injections, hospital stays, Intensive care stays, seizures, lost sleep, lost school time, insulin juggles, food struggles, high related confusion, low related blackouts and all the other associated lows and restrictions of Type 1.
But there has also been a lot of highs, in the last 10 years
Lily has moved from 8 injections a day to 1 in 3 days thanks to technological advances in administering insulin via the pump,
She now has a continual blood glucose monitor which enables 24
hour visibility of her blood sugar levels enabling her to go to sleep overs, play sports and have a level of normality we'd of only dreamed about when she was first diagnosed.
As a family we have raised thousands of pounds since diagnosis for JDRF, Her grandmother Caroline has campaigned tirelessly and ran kilomathons and Marathons in Manchester and London as well as supported with fundraising events gaining royal recognition in the form of a BEM for charitable fundraising in the process.
Her Great Aunt has ridden the London 100 and I have run 1/2 marathons, organised sports and fun days and other activities to raise vital funds.
BUT most impressively Lily herself has completed 2 triathlons, ran numerous races, hosted events, given up her birthday parties and gifts for donations and campaigned fiercely to raise awareness and money to improve the lives of those living with type 1!
To mark her 10th year with diabetes, and celebrate all of the remarkable achievements, advancements as well as painful lows and unforgettable highs we wanted to complete a series of fundraisers throughout the year to make this the biggest year yet.
Here is a snapshot of events.
We would love you to get involved or help by donating to this amazing cause to fund research that will cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes and its complications no just for Lily but for everyone with Type one
Thank you for your help in finding a cure!
