Fire service Ladder carry Coventry · 7 September 2019
Due to social stigma, well ingrained stereotypes and sometimes even our own upbringing; the "Big boys don't cry" mentality still exists. Unfortunately, Male suicide is on the rise...We think it's time to change this.
Myself and some mates from West mids fire service are going to carry a ladder weighing 56kg from Foleshill station to Binley, through the city centre to Coventry station finishing at Canley.
When I first asked for help in this undertaking I was taken aback not just by the amount of people who said they would help but they would help because their brother, friend, cousin, father, workmate or team mate had taken their own life, because they felt like they had no other alternative. I believe that raising awareness of the charity CALMzone , and the amazing work they do may help those suffering to speak up and access the help and support they desperately deserve.
