Story

Dear All,

SUBLIME TO THE RIDICULOUS

This time last year I decided to challenge myself by going on a long, hard and cold walk up Kilimanjaro. It was a wonderful experience but what was even more fantastic was your generosity. Through your pledges I managed to raise £30 000 for three great charities.

This year I am going to the other extreme, a very short but very hot walk. Springboard for Children, a small charity with which I am heavily involved, is organising a FIREWALK on February 24th and I have decided to participate. For the uninitiated a fire walk is a "stroll" over 20ft of burning embers which get to a temperature of 1200 Degrees Fahrenheit. As fire walking has never been high up on the challenges I wanted to experience, (skydiving: yes, mountain climbing: yes, fire walking: definitely no) the ONLY reason for doing this is to raise as much money as possible for a great cause, and Springboard is such a cause.

Springboard is a small charity with which I have been actively involved for about 18 months. Its aim is to provide the highest levels of literacy support for disadvantaged children with learning difficulties in inner city primary schools. The charity helps children realise their potential and provides life enhancing skills for ever increasing numbers of children. In 2003 the charity taught approximately 160 children on an individualised basis in South London. In the 2004/05 year we are planning to increase that to approximately 350 across London and Manchester. Over the next ten years we have ambitious plans to expand to 10 major cities and teach 6000 children per year by the end of that period.

All sponsorship monies will go to the charity to support its wonderful, and life changing work. I hope you will feel able to support me in this endeavour. Finally, the event will take place in Finsbury Square on Thursday 24th February at approximately 7:00pm. If you wish to come and watch, it would be great to see you. Best wishes for 2005, Peter.
