Story

Welcome to team Flaxen-Fowler. We are doing this for you!

At 7am on Saturday 13th March 2021 Lauren Flaxen and Andrew Fowler will be stepping up to RUN 4 miles in their local areas, every 4 hours through the night for 48 hours, finishing 7am on Monday 15th March. 52 miles in total! All our runs will be officially recorded and photographed.

Attention! We are running an extra 4 mile in memory of a lady who was lucky enough to hold the Olympic Torch. That's 56 mile in total, finishing at 11am on Monday 15th March!

We invite you to donate to our chosen charity Macmillan as a pledge YOU will raise awareness and continue to be supportive towards others as a preventive measure to what has led us to take on this ambitious challenge.

Throughout the pandemic, like many, we have taken to lengthy walks and runs to alleviate some of the challenge’s it has presented.

However, for some people many of these challenges have been exacerbated due to the loss or suffering of a parent, relative or friend because of a mental/physical illness.

For some, technology has allowed those families who are separated, facing, or recovering from an illness a lifeline to sustain relationships and show support while restrictions prevent us from travelling.

We have witnessed how cancer and mental health do not discriminate. Age is not a security blanket that can shield from the consequences of such illnesses.

Although our charity is Macmillan, and not everyone who is named has faced their difficulty or loss during the pandemic, we celebrate their lives and run in memory, or to mark the significant achievement of those now moving forward from their illness to be able to ring that bell! Well done Lydia, aged 4!

Thank you to all the staff who have cared for the loved ones of those we run for.  Thank you to all employers and schools who
have supported parents looking after children or to support parents who are going through treatment who have children to look after. Love to all the family members doing whatever it takes to support each other to see a better day
ahead.

Considering the determination of those families who are now reconfiguring to a new set of circumstances by supporting loved ones through their cancer treatment or supporting each other through the loss of someone. With our best foot forward this FOUR is FOR
YOU!

7AM Four Mile for you Kirsty Laing. As we run 4 mile, Kirsty Independent Mother of 3, is aiming to run a mile. In her honor we will wear pink bras and large foam hands. This will be a week before her 3rd chemotherapy treatment. Her aim is to raise awareness of Breast Cancer and encourage more women to check their breasts for
any changes. Happy 40th Birthday Kirsty for today. We are right
behind you!

11am Four Mile for you in memory Chris O’Brien. Love your son Paul O’Brien and Family.

3pm: Four Mile for you in memory of Maureen Thompson. A loving, kind and hardworking lady, who adored her family and friends. She loved a good party too. Maureen was diagnosed with breast
cancer in December 2011 and despite a mastectomy and treatment, the cancer metastasised to her liver and spine and she passed away in October 2012, aged 51 years. It’s heartbreaking to think of all she has missed out on since then, especially the grandchildren she never got to see grow up and the ones she never got to meet (she would have been in her element). She is missed and thought about every day, and loved forever.

7pm: Four Mile for you in memory of Maureen Collins. A loving wife and an amazing mam and nanna. At the age of 49 she was diagnosed with bowl cancer and after a hard fight we thought she had
won but sadly it came back and took this amazing lady at the age of 59. Love always Alan and Family.

11pm: Four Miles for you. Stirl....a husband, a dad, a grandad, a friend. Taken very suddenly and way too soon on Boxing Day 2017 after his Melanoma Skin Cancer had spread. He was a true gentleman, a heart of gold that put others first. He loved a BBQ with his family and friends. Always known for being in his shorts whatever the weather. Him and his infectious laugh are missed every single day. Still doesn’t feel real he’s no longer with us❤️Jackie and Nesika.

Mothering Sunday 14TH March 2021

3am: Four Miles for you in memory of Robert Burns: A young Father taken too early. Love always Liam Burns and Family.

7am: Four Miles for you in memory of Rita Oxman. Strength, courage, and class.

11am: Four Miles for you: Olive, John and Charlene Mallin: To a special group of people who were all taken by a set of circumstances that have left a family devastated. But with strength and the rekindling of friendships, memories are fond and treasured deeply. Moving forward supporting each other to see brighter days ahead. May the Butterfly show all its colors to us when we feel it most.

3pm:Four Miles for you Mary Paxton: “Our little Mary!! The heart of the family who has cared for us all her life. From taking us to Seaburn beach amusements to baking cakes to feed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is a true perfectionist and has always worked hard to provide for her family. Good things really do come in small packages!! We are there for you to battle all the way. Love all the Family.

7pm: Four Miles for you John Dugdale: As we run past the cat and dog steps, your loving family home you shared with wife Jean and down to where you contributed to the beginnings of your daughter Sarah’s new home, we think about how your memory and essence is reflected in the determination and tasteful approaches to life that continue to flourish in your family. Credit to Jean for keeping up her lockdown walks and to Sarah for her efforts to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.

11pm:Four Miles for you, in memory of Lynne Mclachlan: Lynne was a mother of two boys, Paul and Craig, wife to Mick. We could not have asked for a better Mam. Lynne had many hobbies, bee keeping, crafts, calligraphy, and writing to pen friends. Lynne was diagnosed with bowl cancer in 2018. It progressively worse in 2020. Lynne was vulnerable from her chemotherapy treatment and COVID-19 took Lynne's life in April 2020. With love and always in our thoughts the Mclachlan Family.

Monday 15th March 2021

3am Four Miles  for You, in memory of Margaret Hopper: Fit and Fabulous. A Lady with an outlook that made the world always seem a better place. Leaving behind Daughter Anne, Son Peter, and Granddaughter Charlotte Phillips. Three people who look to nature for comfort. In the spring things grow, the nights get lighter and heeling can begin.

7am: Four Miles for you Lydia Blackburn (4-Years-old)

Lydia was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma not long before her 4th birthday, she has had endless amounts of blood tests, scans, biopsies, blood transfusions the list is endless.  Lydia has had 9 sessions of chemo for 3 days at a time 3 weeks apart and radiotherapy to help beat this.  She has now completed all chemo and radio and starts the road to recovery.  Lydia has been incredibly strong throughout with the most contagious smile through some of the toughest times. Lots of love Mammy Dawn and Daddy Paul who could not be any prouder as parents.

11am: Four Miles for you in memory of Val and John Peterson and Daughter Margaret Forster

Anne Gibson dedicates our final stretch in memory of her Mum Val, Dad Peter and Sister Margaret who all had their own cancer journey and to all carers and families who travel by their side supporting them through every step. This is exactly what Anne did. Managing caring responsibilities alongside family and work commitments. All our love to Anne and her family.

Thank you for reading the special stories. Please support us and donate and if you see us we would welcome any support.

Warm wishes
